# 318: Gisala and Oliver

12" x 12" acrylic on canvas

This is a small study that I did for a larger piece. I made some bold color choices and I like it. It feels like I turned a corner and finally found a path that suits me. This is the direction that I want to go with my work....it is the type of art that I can live with. The palette was heavily influenced by William Theophilos Brown who I recently discovered through the book Bay Area Figurative art. here is one of his pieces (though not the piece that influenced the palette above.)

# 317: Figure Study 3

14" x 11" oil on canvas

Another quick 1/2 hour study from the same model. I like the movement of this one, the the shapes are a bit choppy.

# 316: Figure Study 2

14" x 11" oil on canvas

This is  a quick 1/2 hour study. I haven't done quick oil studies like this before and i was a bit fearful, but it seems that i do better when I don't have too much time to think. I did four of these yesterday and for the most part they turned out well. This is a glimpse of what one of may paintings may look like before I proceed to overwork it.

# 314: Home Turf

12" x 9" oil on canvas

Another abstract. Once again, I am unable to judge it, except that his one has been hanging on my wall and it speaks to. Wish I knew the language it was speaking though and that it could tell me if it was done or not and if it not what to do to go about finishing it.

# 313: Ascent

24" x 18" oil on canvas

And now for something completely different (for me at least). Today, in my painting class we worked on really getting abstract and this is what I came up with. I sort of liked it, but my teacher said that some of the color and line is juvenile. I don't know if it is done yet, in fact I hardly know how to judge this at all...help

# 312: Madonna Type

20" x 16" oil on canvas

Well I had some good moments painting this, but in the end, I am disappointed. I got too tight and lost the freshness of the painting in the end...try too hard fixing mistakes and making it"right" rather than compelling.....Talking about right, how the heck did that right arm get so long? Still..for three hours it isn't too bad and like I said, there were moment, where I thought..."hey, look at me, I'm painting!"

but now that more I look at this painting the more I hate it!

# 309: Six

6" x 6" oil on canvas

There was an attempt in this painting to edit and simplify the shapes.

# 308: Figure Study

24" x 18" oil on canvas

This is a 2 hour study done in my painting class today. I have been working on applying more abstract color and on painting larger. I would not say that this is done and am mulling over whether I would try to finish it. Does it have potential?
