IF: Soaked

I attempted a portrait again and bit off more then I could finish.  I am determined to be able to paint good portraits...but I have  a lot of studying to do.

The idea is that the bab is being soaked by some healthy California sun. I will re-post this after I work on it some more.

  2. the face is just fine, don't rework it! If anything the hat could use some realigning...but you've done a really nice job of implying the sun spots as they come through the hat holes and I'd hate to see those disappear.
The subtle planes and shading are nicely handled and echo the relaxed mood of the piece.
    nice.

  3. I agree that the face is fine. My first response was one of warmth and rest; both of which I could use. Thanks for pictorially providing them for me.

  4. Yeah, what they said! I like the how the sun pokes through the little hat holes and lights up her face. It's a beautiful portrait, Alice. If you decide to tighten up the hat, I suggest tightening in a few places for interest, not all over or it could take away from her face. Love the mix of colors in the shadows on the face and neck.
