Black is in Zugzwang. Any move loses.

This was a quicki and is not quite balanced. The Bishop should feel powerful on it's prime location...........the h1-a8 diagonal.

I contiued to  work o the piece but I am still struggling with the background characters...though I think that it is bit better. I am thinking of limiting myself 13 more brushstrokes  because I have a tendency to work over and over it..killing it and trying again. Resolve it or not it will be time to move on to the next painting
OK, this one  needs work. I decided to try to tie in the chess pieces in back with the background but it did not work out. Perhaps they just need to go away. The pawn on the other hand seems to be in a Win win situation.

green pawn

I thought that working with green would be good for me and it was, though now that the painting is posted I can see many missed opportunities. Someday I hope to post a piece that feels finished.

Black pawn

It is appropriate that my humble beginnings as a painter should begin with the humble pawn. The  foot soldier, the infantry, the man in the mud, doing the leg work and taking commands. In Mongolia the pawn was either carved as a boy or a puppy. This is also fitting.

For now I am following orders and doing my duty as a faithful foot soldier on the march, putting in the leg work, hours and effort towards becoming a better painter….whatever that means. The youthful antics of a puppy or a boy remind me to adjust my mentally towards keeping it light and playful rather then taking it too seriously.

For this next offering the dark pawn is under scrutiny; perhaps too much scrutiny in that I got a bit tight and struggled with the reflections and foreshortening.

This will have to do

A not so auspicious beginning but a beginning none-the-less and there are good times ahead.
