IF: Swarm

I got a little lost in the crowd with this one.  As usual it comes clearer after I post it. The little girl would have a better view of where this painting is headed.

  1. This really reminds me of that great James Ensor painting at the Getty; "Christ Entering Brussels." This feels really symbolic of something. Where are we headed?

  2. Bravo! Alice, you are so courageous, painting a street crowd. I like the energy created by keeping the building lines loose ... and how it builds toward the background before releasing us into the sea of faces.

  4. I got the Ensor flash instantly as well...
There's a real evenness to the paint application which is nice. I like all the colors splashing around with abandon on the buildings...they seem freer than the people, who are compositional prisoners ...except for the little girl of course.
    nice work.

  7. the movement is so fast in this painting. with your brush strokes, the crowd seems to jostle, locked in the box(agree with Rick)of the buildings which themselves are speeding by at such a quick rate. very strange sensation of stillness, claustrophobia, and a slightly frenzied quickness barely contained. it all works nicely. river of people with a little white froth cap.
