# 217: Half Carton

6" x 6" oil on canvas

I have not been very consistent about painting lately but that changes today. I am on sabbatical...i.e... I am unemployed as of today but I am treating it like a sabbatical in between job searches. I intend to make the best use of my time by drawing and painting every day, spending more time on this blog and promoting my self as a painter. Everyday will be a new adventure.
I enjoyed the subject of the egg carton but I could have done a better job with the contrast...also the half egg in front was a stumper and it looks a little flat. There tends to be that one thing in every painting that eludes all attempts to be set down on canvas.

  1. Alice, the egg carton looks great. The half egg in front doesn't look flat to me. Good luck on the job search and I hope this sabbatical turns into something wonderful for you.

  2. Great painting, Alice. You could make a career out of painting if you want to. It is all there. Really good.

  3. This is wonderful, Alice! All the subtle warms and cools that make up the white and greys are very satisfying. Combined with your brush strokes, it just keep lookin' and lookin'. I'm envious of your sabbatical. I want to paint all day. Heck, right now, I'd be happy to get any paint time this month!

I also like Imposter. Very hilarious! And Redhead. Nice dimension of space and flowing composition. Congratulations on its sale!

  4. Wow, a sabbatical AND a promotion! Well done, I love your positive approach. And I absolutely love this painting. I don't see the flatness or the contrast issue. It just looks perfect to me as it is, in all it's looseness.
Good luck with the job search, in the meantime we can enjoy all your wonderful creations!
